Open your arms wide - extend them as far as you can. This is first to embody a solidarity with the cross. Think of Jesus opening wide his arms on the cross to embrace all who suffer, all who are in any form of distress. Think of Christ’s all-encompassing love and acceptance.Second, think of the risen Christ and the way he longs to enfold the whole of creation, the little ones and marginalised ones of the earth. Third, offer this prayer as an act of intercession. It is a prayer that hurts—in the sense that your arms will grow weary and ache. Moses prayed like this and had to have others hold his arms up (Exod 17:11,12). As you feel the ache, let it connect you to those who are in pain, those who are hurting: the sick, the dispossessed, those whose human rights are trampled on. Finally, use this prayer-action as an act of self-offering. Look at your hands that have been uplifted in prayer: who will they touch, and bless today? Offer yourself afresh to God for the part he has in store for you in his mission of reconciliation in the world. ... See MoreSee Less

During this Morning's prayers, we remembered all those souls lost 60 years ago in the disaster of Aberfan and ask you to join us in offering this prayer:-

God of all comfort, whose Son
wept at the grave of his friend
Lazarus, look with mercy on
those who remember the
tragedy of Aberfan.
Heal the memories of pain,
hold close those who still
grieve, and grant your eternal
peace to all who died; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏼🕊️

This evening, Pershore Abbey is bathed in blue light as part of the global #waveoflight2026 in memory of all babies whose lives have gone too soon.

Pershore Town Council have also illuminated the High Street in pink and blue on our festoon lights. 🩷💙

We hope these lights help to send a poignant message of love, support and hope for those who grieve.

We join together to offer this prayer:

God our Father,
you know our thoughts and share our sorrows.
Lead us out of desolation
to the caring comfort of your love.
When we forget what happiness is,
renew in us fresh springs of hope.
When we feel bereft of peace,
restore our hearts and calm our fears.
And when we come at last to our departing,
bring us home with you for ever,
the family of God complete;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen. 🙏🏼🕊️

Tonight the lantern tower of Pershore Abbey is bathed in pink light for Breast Cancer awareness 🩷 🎀

We offer our thanks to God for 10 years of the marbellous Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and all their tireless work in supporting patients in our county. Also bringing to mind all NHS staff throughout the country as well as so many who campaign and fundraise within designated charities that help both support patients, families and aid research.

Most of all, we offer prayers for all those living with breast cancer or supporting someone undergoing treatment.

Lord God, whose Son, Jesus Christ,
understood people's fear and pain
before they spoke of them,
we pray for all those living with breast cancer.
Surround the frightened with your tenderness;
give strength to those in pain;
hold the weak in your arms of love,
and give hope and patience
to those who are recovering;
we ask this through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen. 🙏🏼

Happy#pershoreplumfestival Sunday everyone!

Now, whilst our super-organised Abbey Team can control most things, we have definitely never managed to conquer the weather! 😂 ☀️ ☔.🫣

So, if it is dry then our Teddy Praise will proceed as planned in the bandstand. If it is raining heavily this afternoon then please check our Facebook page as we may have to relocate into Pershore Abbey.

Whatever the weather, we hope you all have a super Sunday 🫶🏼
