This afternoon, our Director of Music, James MacDowall-Scott, was invited to play for an hour long recital in the Long Library in Blenheim Palace on their Willis Organ. The organ is the largest organ in private ownership in Europe, with four manuals and pedals, 2,300 pipes, and 53 speaking stops.Blenheim are currently hosting an exhibition of “life through a Royal lens” where people can walk through the exhibition and could stay and listen to James play. He captured a large audience and people were even asking for requests! The organ sits at the far end of the library and he opened the recital with “Fantasia” by Edouard Silas which was written for this specific organ at the opening in 1871.
