Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty Lord of all life and power,
who through the mighty resurrection of your Son
overcame the old order of sin and death
to make all things new in him:
grant that we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory;
to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,
now and in all eternity.
Amen.

Today is #motheringsunday - a day honouring our Mo Today is #motheringsunday - a day honouring our Mother churches in which we were baptised.

It originated in the UK during the 16th Century and in later years, provided those in domestic service the opportunity to return home to their families to attend Church together. The fasting of Lent was relaxed this day and often a Simnel cake was enjoyed.

The tradition started to decline but was revived in the beginning of the 20th Century with the Mothering Sunday Movement created by Constance Penswick Smith. Her most influential booklet was produced in 1921, entitled 'The Revival of Mothering Sunday' with four chapters outlining different aspects of Motherhood that the day should honour. 'The Church – Our Mother', 'Mothers of Earthly Homes',
'The Mother of Jesus' and 'Gifts of Mother Earth'

In more recent times, the day has also become known as #mothersday influenced by the American celebration of Motherhood. It is now heavily commercialised and can be a painful day for the bereaved, estranged or those who were unable to have children.

So today we offer this prayer in thanks for our Mother church and for all our Mothers, remembering especially those for whom this day is difficult one 🙏🏼 🕊️

Well if nothing else this Winter, our Spring bulbs Well if nothing else this Winter, our Spring bulbs have been well watered! 😂☔

The snowdrops are starting to go over slightly in our Churchyard but the vibrant Crocuses are out in force beside the early Daffodils, providing a welcome carpet of colour 🫶🏼🪻🌼. We took advantage of the sunshine early yesterday morning to record them.

Bulb Teas are still being served each weekend in the village hall and on Sunday 22nd February, we warmly invite you to join us for our annual Bulb Service at St Jamestge Great which will be held at 3pm.
