Nearly 9 weeks of the 2025 Peregrine Perils and Mr P is so tired of the kids hanging out in his prestigious Pinnacle Pantry Kitchen that he’s worried his ratings will drop on PereAdvisor! After all, who wants to eat in a restaurant full of unruly children? The last thing he needs now are negative reviews and Mrs P on the rampage responding to them! Therefore he has now opened up ‘Castellation Cubbyhole’. Here he throws down half dead prey and lets them get on with it. This is a Peregrine version of a Happy Meal where the fun is in the eating rather than a plastic toy. Much more environmentally friendly than McDonalds! Mrs P describes it’s more of a PYO eatery as in “Pluck your own” 😂 So last night as we all melted in this excessive heat, you would have been forgiven for thinking it was snowing at the Abbey because 3 of our juvenile perils were having enormous fun plucking and creating a pile of feathers. One of the boys landed like a rocket right on top of it all and there was almost a mushroom cloud that puffed up and fluttered gently down in the blue skies. It looked to all intents and purposes like a pillow fight in a boarding school dormitory! Spitfire was very cross with her Brother for wasting the feathers as she’s making herself a comfy bed from them to get her beauty sleep! Never let it be said that she is wasteful 😂All this takes place under the watchful eye of Mrs P as she tries to zone out from the constant chatter. She won’t admit it to Mr P but secretly she’s looking forward to her annual holiday too this year as it’s been much too hot for all these shenanigans. It’s as much as she can do to scare off the pesky Seagulls in this heat. In fact, even Mr Kite got away with a cheeky flyover across the Bell Tower last night on his way back home to Throckmorton although in fairness, he was extremely high up in the air. Mrs P couldn’t summon up the energy to argue with him so she pretended that she hadn’t seen him instead. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; and give them courage to face the perils that beset them; and help them to know that nothing can separate them from your love; in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

At last night’s rehearsal of David Briggs’ Org At last night’s rehearsal of David Briggs’ Organ recital, we captured a picture of James MacDowall-Scott, Pershore Abbey’s Director of Music with David. Tickets will be available on the door this evening and the finale of David’s programme will be an improvisation - Could it be Star wars, could it be ET, could it be???? we will have to wait and see, but whatever David decides, it will be totally brilliant. 💫 David returns back to New York on Monday, so this is the final chance to get to see him on his tour. Tickets are £20 cash and card accepted. There will be a glass of wine or soft drink at the end of the Recital, where you will get a chance to meet and chat with David.

Hands up all those whose Father’s Day has starte Hands up all those whose Father’s Day has started like this … one continuous sibling scrap and non stop shouting! 😂🙈 Poor Mr P has retreated to his hideaway tree to reflect upon his life. He thinks fondly of his own childhood on the family scrape out in the rural countryside. No large platform or health checks for him. Move too far and you were off the cliff face. When you started to fly, you did it properly because there was no large roof space to land on. Four of them squeezed into a tiny space with hardly any room to flap their wings. Mum and Dad out at work all day to bring food. You had to start helping them out at a very young age - not sitting at home all day preening yourself and constantly moaning about there not being any food in the cupboard! “That’s the trouble with youngsters today” he mused. “They are too mollycoddled and have it too easy!” He thought of his own Father today and his eldest children who are out in the big wide world getting on with their lives. He’s hoping to catch up with them at some point today. Joanna and Claire are both courting. Henry’s playing the field and Charlie is still looking. They find it amusing to hear the updates on their younger siblings. “We were perfect Angels compared to this lot” laughed Joanna. Mr P wouldn’t go that far but he figures that they will soon find out for themselves the “joys” of parenting! 😂 At least Mrs P is now as frazzled as he is. So much so that she has promised him a holiday abroad in late September. Yes, he’ll enjoy his Autumn getaway in neighbouring Gloucestershire no doubt 🤦🏼‍♀️😂. Mrs P’s idea of the seaside is the Severn Estuary whereas Mr P would love to fly to Cornwall. Never mind Mr P. We all think you are doing a sterling job - even if Spitfire can only flap up to the top ridge of the nest and back! Happy Father’s Day everyone ❤️🦅
A prayer for Father’s Day 🙏🏻 This Father’s Day we give thanks for all of those who are a Father-figure in our lives. We pray for all who have a difficult or no relationship with their Father, those who couldn’t be Fathers and those whose Father has died. We thank you dear Lord for being the Father of us all. Amen 🙏🏻
Spitfire didn’t have the best of days yesterday Spitfire didn’t have the best of days yesterday 🙈. Having received a few strong words from Mrs P, she tried to up her game on the fledging front. So at lunchtime, she flapped and flapped as hard as she could whilst standing on the edge of the platform. She tried to have zoomies too across the nest site but it’s not easy being a larger bird. Unfortunately the wind was very strong and so after a while, she thought age had done enough to keep Daddy happy and settled best down. Then the rain came in and she realised that it’s not much fun without being in a group huddle with her Brothers. She looked up at the camera, wondering why the architect hadn’t at least featured a parasol in his design! 😂 ☔️ Mercifully the sun came out afterwards and she could concentrate on preening herself yet again. Like many a teenager, It’s definitely her favourite pastime. Mrs P looked down in despair and flew off. She and Mr P had a discussion in the air and then Mrs P rode the thermals and hovered above the Nave roof trying to coax Spitfire off the nest. Alas her two Brothers had returned by then so Spitfire, sensing food wouldn’t be too long arriving, was having none of it! Mr P went and took his frustration out on the nearest Pigeon! 😂 By 4.30 pm there were only 5 out of 6 Peregrines around the Abbey with one of the boys MIA. Our media team scoured the area and were starting to panic. It’s been some time now since we have had to deal with a national passing and we are out of practice. Thankfully though, the missing naughty little tyrant was home in time for his supper and all four siblings let Mummy serve them in a scene similar to that on Walton’s mountain. We’ve sent the media team off to calm down with a cup of tea, a small chocolate bar and two paracetamol 😂🤣🤪 So tune in later to see if today is the day that Spitfire finally launches 🚀🦅. We could really do with electronic tags on our Juveniles next year to keep our media team calm. Do Apple or Samsung actually do Peregrine tags?? 😂🤣
Week 6 and Mr P has called a crisis summit as Spit Week 6 and Mr P has called a crisis summit as Spitfire is showing no sign of joining her fledged big brothers. He told Mrs P to start wrapping her pigeon in a road map to drop a subtle hint that it’s time to leave the nest! He made the mistake of commenting about Spitfire’s weight and suggested asking the builders on Almonry Close whether they could borrow the crane 🏗️ to lift her off. Oh dear, you don’t mention a woman’s weight as Mrs P is quite sensitive in that area, having gained a little sat minding the youngsters. Let’s just say that Mr P has been relegated to the tree! 😂🤣 The boys are happily flying around now. Unfortunately somebody inconveniently built 4 pinnacles on the Abbey bell tower and one of the boys almost collided with the South West one yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️. Luckily he used it to do a break-dancing back flip and all was well. The table manners are regressing too. Now Spitfire is so ravenous that she’s also grabbing the food and running. Mr P thinks that Swiss finishing school is now out of the question as Spitfire shows no sign of ladylike etiquette. 😂 In other news, St Andrew’s is still being used as a play “fort” and the Abbey grounds in these high winds are looking more like the set of Michael Jackson’s Thriller video by the day! It’s all jolly good fun hosting Peregrine Falcons 😂👏🏻❤️🦅

Happy Pentecost Sunday 🔥 🕊️ where our two Happy Pentecost Sunday 🔥 🕊️ where our two platform-remaining Peregrine juveniles have displayed high jinks. Male P3 (Lloyd) is quite frustrated to be left alone with his “not-so-little Sister’. He’s seen both his Brothers fly into the big wide world (of course we know it as the Nave roof! 😂) and he’s currently experiencing FOMO …. ‘fear of missing out’! So after breakfast and much flapping, he too took flight up to see the Truman Show camera. He stayed there for quite some time as although he wouldn’t admit it to Spitfire, he wasn’t quite sure how to get back down. He managed it eventually and is now chilling out sat back on the slate. Fingers crossed he will safely take flight today. Male Peregrines predominantly fledge first from eldest downwards. As Spitfire is the youngest and female, she is most likely to be last even more likely to go to the ground so please be vigilant and do let us know if you find her🙏🏻 as Operation 📦 has to be deployed 😁 #peregrinefalcon #peregrine #pershoreabbey
There’s lots on in the Pershore Benefice this Su There’s lots on in the Pershore Benefice this Sunday 🫶🏻 It’s Café Church 9.30 am in St Andrew’s Parish Centre with tea, toast, songs and a talk! 🎶☕️ 🍞 The theme will be Pentecost - getting the message across! At 10.30 am in Birlingham we have our Outdoor Eco service in Court House Woodland Garden by kind permission of Rupert and Maryanne Day. This service will be led by Revd Jayne and there will be refreshments afterwards. 🌳 Meanwhile at 10.30 am in St Mary’s in Wick, we have a Pet Service where you can bring your furry or feathered friends for a blessing. 🐶 🐈 Or you can join us in the Abbey in person or via YouTube for our Pentecost Sunday all-age Eucharist service. 🔥 🕊️ Then at 5pm, we have our Wholeness and Healing service in the Abbey too. 🤲🏻 Plenty to chose from this week and we would be delighted to welcome you 🙏🏻
…. and the winner in our “Spot the Peregrine” competition is our Digital Media team who found Francis P on the south side of the Nave roof this morning in scenes reminiscent of young Henry last year. Both Mr & Mrs P were watching the proceedings and gearing themselves up for yet another feeding shift. Harold and Lloyd are teetering on the edge of the platform wondering if they too should take a back flip dive whilst Spitfire is more concerned as to whether there is any Pigeon left over 😂. #peregrinefalcon #peregrinefledglings #pershoreabbey
It’s never a dull moment here at Pershore Abbey It’s never a dull moment here at Pershore Abbey …. 😉 Mr P is regretting going along with the WW2 theme this year as in true military fashion, one of his boys has “gone over the top”! There he was this morning, leisurely flying round stalking the Pigeon posse to find a nice plump bird (“A bit like the Missus” he chuckled to himself!) and before he could say “238 miles per hour”, one of his offspring tumbled backwards into the air and landed on the Nave roof! So he had to abandon his prey and hot foot it back to the Abbey to find out what was going on. Of course the other three were only too keen to retell the story - all of which was squawked at ‘Mrs P volume’ at the same time so he was still none the wiser! Of course sibling concern only extended a mere 60 seconds before the “What’s for lunch?” squawking kicked in. Thankfully he spotted his son down on the Nave roof and flew down to make sure he was fine. Before he left, he issued warnings to the others not to sit too close to the edge. Unfortunately they listen to his advice about as frequently as Mrs P does so who knows who will be the next one camping out tonight! Peregrines often fall from the nest site which was one of the reasons the East elevations was chosen. Junior P will be safe from predators there and Mr & Mrs P can feed him. Between 5-6 weeks old they are ready to fledge anyway so fingers crossed that just like Henry last year, he will find his wings and fly back up. We will not intervene unless a Juvenile lands upon the ground. We can only take them as far as the Nave roof anyway. But do spare a thought for Mr P right now who is definitely suffering from PTSD. He’s desperately trying to hang on to his sanity until his big holiday in the Autumn. Mrs P was thinking of Bourton-on-the-Water …. he’s thinking more along the lines of the Great Barrier Reef. Mrs P wants to protect the nest site, he wants to protect his sanity! 😂🤣👏🏻

We are sorry to report that one of our floodlighti We are sorry to report that one of our floodlighting cables has been damaged above the Vestry. Unfortunately this will require expert electricians to be called in to fix the situation and which may take some time to correct. As a result, parts of the Abbey bell tower will be unlit until the wire is repaired/replaced so please bear with us. 🙏🏻
Week 4 and there’s more flapping with the Peregr Week 4 and there’s more flapping with the Peregrine Perils than the Abbey’s flag in a force ten gale 😂🙈. Our fluffy white “Buddhas” are now predominantly brown as their plumage has come on in leaps and bounds. Mrs P almost chokes on the white fluff in these winds! Talking of Mrs P, her constant chatter is grating on Mr P’s nerves as it’s like a creaking gate. He’s worried that if he grinds his beak any more in annoyance that he will require a filling. He’s checked the Peregrine breeding manual for the “joys of parenting” and hasn’t found any to date. His one-man abattoir routine is very tiring, especially when the kids just gobble it down with no appreciation. Mrs P doesn’t help either. “That pigeon was a bit tough” she grumbled to him yesterday. He sarcastically replied “Well, I didn’t have time to see if he had Love and Hate tattoos on his feet!” Oh dear, Mrs P doesn’t do sarcasm and he had to exit stage left extremely quickly 😂 We will see much more flapping and running in preparation for their fledging which is usually around 6 weeks. The official “Peregrine carrier” Judy has dusted the archive file box off and is practicing the rescue drill up to the roof. Last year it was the two girls that landed on the floor so fingers crossed this year passes without incident or if nothing else, just one rescue. Let’s hope Spitfire lives up to her name rather than her Mother’s temperament! 😉 Don’t forget you can watch their adventures on our Pershore Peregrines YouTube channel.
